It’s no secret that streaming services have been coming out on top, when compared to cable and satellite broadcasts. Now, even teams in the NBA and NHL are slipping away from the TV network world… PxP Broadcaster Jesse Ough shares the latest in Minnesota’s sports broadcasting news:
According to an announcement from Bally Sports North (the broadcasting network that televises games for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Wild), the network will continue to televise games through the 2023-24 season. However, all subsequent seasons, games and events are up in the air, as far as broadcasting goes. Due to a tentative ruling issued through federal bankruptcy, the remaining games of the season are all we’re guaranteed to see on TV for Minnesota’s MLB, NBA and NHL teams. Come the end of the season, the teams will become free agents seeking a new broadcasting partner.
As a Play by Play (PxP) Broadcaster, Jesse Ough isn’t sure how to take this news. Ough has navigated his career through the television, streaming, podcasting and new media corners of sports broadcasting. Along the way, he’s noticed a natural shift towards more internet-based platforms. The PxP Broadcaster feels prepared to make his mark on the territory. But only time will tell how long-time television network based projects will make the transition. It’s an exciting time for sports entertainment, as far as Ough is concerned!
